EA Turned Down Glen Schofield's Dead Space 4 Offer!

Electronic Arts has turned down Dead Space 4 from Glen Schofield, creator of the iconic sci-fi horror series.

Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space, one of the best sci-fi horror games of all time, said that he offered to make Dead Space 4 for Electronic Arts earlier this year, but received a negative response from the American publisher. Schofield, who was a guest on Dan Allen Gaming a few weeks ago with two other architects of the iconic series, Brett Robbins and Cristopher Stone, clarified the long-rumored subject.

“Actually, the three of us tried to pitch Dead Space 4,” the veteran director said in response to the question of why they were turned down, ‘We didn't go too deep; they just said they weren't interested right now, we appreciate that, blah blah blah, and we respected their opinion. We still have some ideas,’ he said.

Electronic Arts Didn't Want to Make Dead Space 4
The trio said they will make Dead Space 4, despite coming back empty at Electronic Arts' door. The last game released in the series was Dead Space 3 in 2013. The original Dead Space was remade by Motive Studio in 2022. In 2022, Schofield released The Callisto Protocol, considered the spiritual successor to the Dead Space series, with his new studio Striking Distance Studios.

The game failed to meet publisher KRAFTON's expectations for sales of five million units, and layoffs have recently occurred. Both the team and the budget were downsized, while Schofield left the studio he founded. Things didn't go well for Dead Space's creative director Brett Robbins either. Immortals of Aveum, which Robbins released with his own independent AAA game studio Ascendant Studios, fell far short of expectations despite EA's financial and publishing support.

Just three weeks after the release of the first-person magic shoot 'em genre game, Ascendant Studios was in a state of defoliation. The independent studio, which had more than 100 employees before the release of their first game, had to part ways with almost half of their team. The grandiose project, which came out at the same time as giants like Diablo 4, Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3, is estimated to have cost $125 million.
