The stats page provides a very brief overview of the games released on Steam in 2024. According to SteamDB, 18,949 new games were released on Steam this year. Last year, this number was 14,310.
Nearly 19,000 New Games Released on Steam in 2024
With one exception, every year the number of new games has been well above the previous year. However, the difference between 2023 and 2024 could be the biggest jump ever for a single year. Of course, these numbers include everything released on Steam that year, including free games, experiments, prank games, student projects, and games we've never heard of.
The report also reveals that of the nearly 19,000 new games, only 3,973 were popular enough to be included in Steam profile features, which allowed them to offer collectible trading cards, emojis, and other customization elements. That's just over 20 percent of all games released on the platform in 2024.
Another report released in recent weeks showed that Steam users spent just 15 percent of their total game play time on games released in 2024. Forty-seven percent of total game play time on Steam was spent on games released in the last one to seven years, while 37 percent was spent on games that have been out for eight years or more.
